Rusangu University gets an accreditation certificate as a Health Research Institution

Rusangu University has disclosed that t he National Health Research Authority (NHRA) has accredited the University with the status of a health research institution. According to the Authority, Rusangu University has demonstrated unequivocally that they have the competence to carry out world-class research focused on making breakthroughs in the science space ethically. But University Corporate Communication, Marketing, and Public Relations Manager Lee Haamunji says this accreditation comes at a time when the science space is hungry for breakthroughs and new innovations for tackling health challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Patriotic Front Chairperson for Legal Affairs George Chisanga says it’s the people of Zambia who are pushing the‘alebwelelapo’ agenda because of the economic hardships they are going through. Mr. Chisanga who is also Lukashya Member of Parliament says Zambians feel former President Edgar Lungu performed better during his reign. He says the country has never faced the kind of hardships people are going through. Over 430,000 Zambian children engaged in child labour

The 2020 Child Labour Report has revealed that a total number of 430, 074 children are engaged in child labour in Zambia, representing a proportion of 6.9 percent. According to the report by the Zambia Statistics Agency, there are more girls than boys involved in child labour. Labour and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba is concerned with the involvement of children in hazardous work such as stone crushing,lifting heavy loads,animal herding, and street hawking acts that are detrimental to their well-being. Speaking at the launch and dissemination of the 2022 labor force survey report and 2020 Child Labour Report, Ms. Tembatamba says government has strengthened legislation on the protection of children through the enactment of the children’s code act of 2022. She adds that through the provision of free education, there has been a marked increase in school enrollment which will help reduce exposure to child labour.           ...

Historian Euston Chiputa charged that Former President Edgar Lungu will be bruised should he decide to contest the 2026 presidential election. Dr. Chiputa notes that while Former Presidents in other countries have been re-elected after leaving office, the landscape and circumstances in Zambia are different. He has since advised the patriotic front to go for the convention and elect a new leadership to avoid confusion in the party. Zambia not on track to achieve SDGS by 2030

United Nations Resident Coordinator Beatrice Mutali says Zambia is not on track to achieving sustainable development goals despite making strides towards meeting some of them. Ms Mutali says globally, none of the countries are on track in meeting the 17 goals because of the unexpected occurrences such as the covid-19, wars and unrest's. She says Zambia submitted it's voluntary national review report which indicated that the country is facing challenges in achieving some of the sustainable development goals. Ms Mutali says Zambia is making strides towards some sustainable development goals such as those to do with education following the introduction of the free education policy which has seen a lot of children accessing education as well as the recruitment of teachers. She further states that the country has also made notable progress in the health sector as can be seen by the recent recruitment of health workers and the reduction in maternal mortality. ENDS/////

Zambians urged to take insurance seriously

Zambians have been advised to take insurance policies seriously by insuring their properties against any eventualities. AYO Insurance Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Nkolola says humans are vulnerable to calamities, hence it’s important to plan before they occur. Mr. Nkolola says AYO Insurance has contributed significantly to the growth of the Zambian Insurance Industry through the provision of sound life insurance products and services which include; my family insurance, hospitalization, life insurance cover among others. He says although people might not see the immediate benefits when paying insurance premium, they will see the benefits when calamities happen. And Mr. Nkolola says the insurance week which runs from 25th to 30th September is an important event as it will help sensitize members of the public on the importance of social protection by way of insurance and allow them begin to appreciate these services.  Ends...
