You will be bruised, ECL warned
Historian Euston Chiputa charged that Former President Edgar Lungu will be bruised should he decide to contest the 2026 presidential election.
Dr. Chiputa notes that while Former Presidents in other countries have been re-elected after leaving office, the landscape and circumstances in Zambia are different.
He has since advised the patriotic front to go for the convention and elect a new leadership to avoid confusion in the party.
And Dr. Chiputa has advised the government to desist from commenting so much on the perceived engagement in active politics by Former President Lungu as doing so amounts to campaigning for him.
He says what the UPND are doing to Mr. Lungu is the same thing that the patriotic front did to President Hichilema in opposition when they used to arrest him unnecessarily.
And University of Zambia Historian, Bizeck Phiri has charged that the delay by the patriotic front to hold a general conference is contributing to the confusion of whether the former president is still active in politics or not.
Professor Phiri says the patriotic front has not come out clearly what the position of the former head of state is in the party.
He says this is why the country has continued to hear the party in power asking him to declare whether he has returned to active politics so that his benefits can be withdrawn.
