Rusangu University gets an accreditation certificate as a Health Research Institution

Rusangu University has disclosed that the National Health Research Authority (NHRA) has accredited the University with the status of a health research institution.

According to the Authority, Rusangu University has demonstrated unequivocally that they have the competence to carry out world-class research focused on making breakthroughs in the science space ethically.

But University Corporate Communication, Marketing, and Public Relations Manager Lee Haamunji says this accreditation comes at a time when the science space is hungry for breakthroughs and new innovations for tackling health challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Haamunji says Rusangu University stands shoulder to shoulder with other science gurus in ensuring that the research is systematic and detailed investigations into the study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions that will help the stakeholders in the science space make informed decisions and choices.

‘’Therefore, we join the research community in Zambia in offering tier 1 research studies both to our local and international stakeholders to provide important information about disease trends and risk factors, outcomes of treatment or public health interventions, functional abilities, patterns of care, and health care costs and use’’ He said.

Mr. Hamunji says Rusangu University plays a pivotal role in the science space by ensuring that students who graduate from science-based programmes such as a degree in environmental health, a degree in nursing, a diploma in public health nursing, and a degree in biomedical science take a leading role in research.

Furthermore, the different approaches to research provide complementary insights. Clinical trials can provide vital information about the efficacy and adverse effects of medical interventions by controlling the variables that could impact the results of the study, but feedback from real-world clinical experience from research institutions like Rusangu

University is also crucial for comparing and improving the use of drugs, vaccines, medical devices, and diagnostics.

The National Health Research Authority (NHRA) is a regulatory body that was established under the Health Research Act No. 2 of 2013. The mandate is to provide a regulatory framework for the development, regulation, financing, and coordination of health research to ensure the development of consistent health research standards and guidelines for ethically sound health research in Zambia.
