Mbangweta urges politicians to recognize HH’s competence

Image
Western Province Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta has urged politicians to be realistic and accept that others, like President Hakainde Hichilema , are more competent in certain areas. Mr. Mbangweta said if this recognition is embraced, it would eliminate jealousy and help leaders appreciate their positions in relation to their abilities. He said Zambia belongs to all citizens equally and not to a select few, saying there should be no divisions of landlords and servants. Mr. Mbangweta says  while everyone enjoys the same rights, some individuals must be acknowledged as more capable, even if they may not be considered the right people by others. The Minister, who is also UPND Nkeyema Member of Parliament ,  said  that divisions in the country stem from individuals who believe Zambia belongs exclusively to them and insist on leading even when incompetent. He has pointed to President Hichilema’s career as evidence of capacity, noting that before joining politics, he had risen to...

Free Education a blessing for families — Simbao

Image
Luanshya Central Member of Parliament Lusale Simbao has praised the government’s free education policy , describing it as a life-changing blessing for many families in his constituency . Mr. Simbao said the policy has opened opportunities for children who would otherwise have remained at home due to financial challenges. He noted that the overwhelming demand for school places has led to fully packed classrooms, making it difficult for headteachers to accommodate all learners. “I feel sorry for the headteachers. People think when they say no, they don’t want the children, but the truth is the classrooms are full. The headteachers want the children to come to school,” Mr. Simbao explained. He said free education has created excitement among pupils who are now eager to attend school, unlike in the past when many stayed home because parents could not afford fees. Mr. Simbao also highlighted improvements in learning conditions, saying pupils are now able to sit on desks instead of the floo...

Luanshya MP praises CDF for transforming constituency

Image
Luanshya Central Member of Parliament Lusale Simbao says the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has significantly transformed his constituency by addressing long-standing challenges in infrastructure, education, and service delivery. Mr. Simbao noted that many people initially thought Luanshya Constituency only covered the town centre, but it is in fact a vast area stretching from Copperstone to beyond the toll gate, covering communities such as Kasongo , Masaiti Block , Dap , Kapukulu, Chawama , and Baluba . He recalled his campaign tours, during which he encountered serious hardships faced by residents, such as communities cut off from health facilities by streams without bridges. “In places like Visaka , people risked their lives trying to cross makeshift poles to reach clinics and schools. Some even lost their lives attempting to cross. Today, thanks to CDF, a strong and safe bridge has been built, and everyone – children, the elderly, and pregnant women – can cross without fea...

Global protests target IMF and World Bank over inequality

As the World’s Finance Ministers, Bankers, and Corporate elites gather in Washington D.C.  for the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings , waves of protests are erupting across continents from Morocco to Madagascar, Kathmandu to Lima  led by young people demanding accountability and a fairer global economy. At the heart of this movement is the Fight Inequality Alliance (FIA) , a coalition representing ordinary people standing up against inequality and corporate greed, amplifying the voices of those most affected by unjust economic systems. The protests come amid news that billionaire Elon Musk  has become the first person in history to amass a $500 billion fortune  a milestone the Alliance calls a “stark symbol of extreme inequality.” FIA General Secretary Jenny Ricks  said Musk’s wealth highlights a “rigged” global system that rewards greed while ordinary people bear the cost of economic crises and austerity. “The system is rigged. It  i s a heist of epic pro...
