Free Education a blessing for families — Simbao
Mr. Simbao said the policy has opened opportunities for children who would otherwise have remained at home due to financial challenges. He noted that the overwhelming demand for school places has led to fully packed classrooms, making it difficult for headteachers to accommodate all learners.
“I feel sorry for the headteachers. People think when they say no, they don’t want the children, but the truth is the classrooms are full. The headteachers want the children to come to school,” Mr. Simbao explained.
He said free education has created excitement among pupils who are now eager to attend school, unlike in the past when many stayed home because parents could not afford fees.
Mr. Simbao also highlighted improvements in learning conditions, saying pupils are now able to sit on desks instead of the floor, and schools have benefited from an adequate number of teachers.
“In the past, one teacher would move from one class to another, teaching different grades. But it is no longer the case. For my constituency, I don’t have a school that can complain of lacking teachers,” he said.
The parliamentarian described Luanshya as one of the luckiest constituencies in the country, citing the rapid pace of development taking place.
“Luanshya is changing rapidly, and I want to thank God. I’m always on my knees praying for his intervention,” Mr. Simbao added.
