Image

Chanda urges ECL to transition into Statesman role

Image
Patriotic Front (PF) Kanchibiya Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda has called on former President Edgar Lungu to embrace the role of a statesman, saying his time in active politics should come to a dignified close. Mr. Chanda, who referred to Lungu as a “political father,” said the former Head of State has already made his mark and should now step back to allow a new generation of leaders to emerge. “President Lungu is not getting any younger,” Chanda said. “Leadership is about succession. He has worked with many people and knows their capabilities. He just needs to identify someone and support them. That, to me, would be the best way forward.” Mr. Chanda has argued that continuing to hold on to Lungu as the party’s only hope for leadership is doing him a disservice. “Those who are clinging to him, thinking he’s the only one who can be President, are not doing him any favors. They did the same with President Rupiah Banda and Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and the end result was the same. They over...

Binwell Mpundu: The Ichabaiche Movement Is Not Politically Funded, It’s a Youth Revolution

Image
Binwell Mpundu, the founder of the Movement for Good Governance   popularly known as Ichabaiche   has dismissed claims that the youth-led initiative is being sponsored by political figures. In an exclusive interview, Mr. Mpundu has clarified that the movement is fully self-funded, with no financial backing from any external sources. “There is no invisible hand. It’s just me , a young person who has suffered at the hands of political parties , realizing the need to create a platform for fellow youth,” he explained. Mr. Mpundu sa id   Ichabaiche  was born out of frustration and rejection, after twice being denied adoption by traditional political parties. His experience revealed a critical gap: while young people make up the majority of the population, they are often reduced to the role of cheerleaders in the political arena. “I’m simply being a big brother, encouraging young people to take the lead,” he said. “If the youth unite, many of today’s Members of Parliament ...

Enough is Enough”: UPND Women call for Castration of Child defilers

Image
In a bold and emotionally charged appeal, women leaders from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) have demanded the castration of men found guilty of sexually abusing C hildren   particularly those abusing their own daughters, amid a surge in cases that has left families reeling and communities outraged. The call comes in the wake of the abolition of the death penalty, with the UPND Women’s Wing insisting that castration is the only punishment severe enough to deter what they describe as a “sickening and inhumane trend.” UPND Provincial Chairlady Angela Muuka led the charge at a recent press briefing in Lusaka, where she called on Members of Parliament to consider introducing castration laws in response to the spike in sexual abuse involving minors—often within the supposed safety of their homes. “We are raising our daughters only to have them defiled by their own fathers, uncles, and even pastors,” Muuka said. “Our homes are no longer safe. Even our churches are...
