UPND MPs rally behind President Hichilema for 2026 Elections
As Zambia heads towards the 2026 general elections, Members of Parliament from the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) have reaffirmed their support for President Hakainde Hichilema, citing his achievements in economic growth, governance, and infrastructure development.
According to the lawmakers, President Hichilema’s performance surpasses that of the previous administration led by former President Edgar Lungu.
They have argued that since assuming office in 2021, the President has successfully implemented key policies and development projects that have transformed various constituencies across the country.
Sinazongwe Member of Parliament Gift Sialubalo has strongly endorsed President Hichilema, emphasizing the significant progress made in his constituency.
Mr. Sialubalo has pointed out the improvement of rural infrastructure, such as the installation of water mechanization systems and the construction of a maternity annex, which were previously non-existent.
“The Batoka-Maamba Road, which has been a long-standing challenge, is now under construction by China-Jio. Likewise, the Ndambwa Road, which had never received a tarmac surface since its creation, is now being upgraded to bituminous standards,” he stated.
Mr. Sialubalohas also highlighted the revival of Sinazeze Market, which had been abandoned and turned into a shelter for livestock. The market is now being completed at a cost of K11 million.
“Cash-for-Work programs have benefited countless families, and development is evident everywhere. With such a hardworking President, we have no choice but to say, ‘Please continue,’” he added.
As a demonstration of his unwavering support, Mr. Sialubalo has offered to be President Hichilema’s campaign manager in Sinazongwe, ensuring that all developmental projects under his leadership are properly acknowledged.
“I will make sure people recognize what President Hichilema has done. I remain his campaign manager until he secures a 100% victory in Sinazongwe,” he declared.
Nkeyema Member of Parliament Kapelwa Mbangweta has also endorsed President Hichilema, commending his equitable distribution of development projects across the country.
Mr. Mbangweta has pointed to the restoration of meal allowances for students and the implementation of free education, which have made schooling more accessible to many Zambians children.
“Education is now free, and students are receiving their allowances. Can anyone recall a single major achievement from the previous administration?” Mr. Mbangweta questioned.
In Namwala, Member of Parliament Herbert Moono Mapani has dismissed opposition candidates, insisting that no contender poses a real threat to President Hichilema in the upcoming elections.
“No opposition leader has a vision that matches what President Hichilema has done for this country. He is the only leader capable of delivering continued progress,” he stated.
With multiple UPND lawmakers voicing their support, it is evident that the party is rallying behind President Hichilema for re-election in 2026.
The MPs have argued that his transformational leadership has set Zambia on a path of economic recovery, governance reform, and infrastructure expansion.
As the election season approaches, UPND officials believe that backing President Hichilema is not just a political choice but a necessity for continued national development.
