TV owners have threatened to plug off their signals from Topstar by 31st of August this year if the signal carrier does not address their demands. Among the demands they want to be addressed include revenue sharing, Scroller, Quality and transmission costs as they have ascertained that Topstar is exploiting them. They have also complained that running TV is an expensive venture and that there is no way they can be providing Topstar free content when they are reaping through subscription. Speaking during a Stakeholder Meeting Organized by Topstar, Revelation TV owner Stanford Chifitah proposed that local TV stations on the Topstar Platform switch off their signal if their demands are to be taken seriously. Dr. Chifitah feels that some TV owners are entering into contracts with Topstar without the knowledge of their colleagues in the TV industry. Some opposition political parties have welcomed the conviction and sentencing of former  Ministry of Health Chief Human Resource Officer Henry  Kapoko and four others for corruption and theft involving k 6 million. Mr. Kapoko who was arrested by the ACC in 2009 following the unearthing of a scam involving corruption, theft, and money laundering at the Ministry of Health was on Thursday with four others sentenced to 18 years imprisonment for corruption and theft involving k 6 million. The sentence includes five years each for theft, 5 years for money laundering and a further nine for theft by public servant. But Opposition United Party for National Development UPND Secretary General Steven Katuka says the trial and sentencing of Kapoko and four others for corruption and theft for embezzling public funds should serve as a lesson to government officers to shun from engaging in corruption. Zambia Religious Council (ZRC) Executive Director, Howard Banda has expressed concern at the increasing levels of tribal tension in the Country. Mr Banda says contrary to the perception that there is political tension in the country, what is there is tribal tension. He says there is need therefore to address tribal tension. Mr Banda says the church should demonstrate leadership and address the issue of tribalism openly which he says is affecting progress and unity. And Mr. Banda has doubted if the pending dialogue will achieve its intended purpose stressing that the three mother bodies namely Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ), Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) and Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB), are divided.

The Prisons Care and Counseling Association (PRISCCA) has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia to start registering remandees and convicted prisoners as voters. PRISCA Executive Director, Dr Godfrey Malembeka says despite the ruling by the Constitutional Court that remandees and convicted prisoners who have appealed their cases will now be allowed to vote in elections, nothing is being done to ensure that these people are registered as voters. Dr. Malembeka says there is need for the Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General to undertake a vigorous mobilization exercise and sensitize the prisoners on the need to register as voters. He says his organization expected prisoners to participate in the forthcoming Mayoral by-election and other elections the country is having. Dr. Malembeka says the ECZ should have used the Mayoral by-election as an opportunity to perfect the tools they are developing so that they know what to do as 2021 draws closer. The Federation of Free Trade Unions of Zambia (FFTUZ) has expressed concern at the high number of Unions mushrooming across the Country. FFTUZ President Chingati Msiska says the mushrooming of trade unions has weakened the labor movement's voice in the country. And Mr. Msiska has advised the Trade Unions to stop fighting among themselves but concentrate on improving working conditions for the workers. He has emphasized that what unions should strive is to ensure that they champion a labor awareness programs to advocate for improvement of working conditions and policies as well as creating knowledge about workers rights. Mr. Msiska has reminded trade unions in the country that their main goal is to improve living standard of workers through awareness on rights for workers at workplace and through good policies and working conditions.

Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) has commended government for the various interventions it has instituted that have brought about consistent growth over the years averaging 4% and above. Commenting on the midyear economic brief presented by Finance Minister Margret Mwanakatwe, PMRC Executive Director Bernadette Deka, however, states that higher growth rates should be targeted in the future if such economic growths are to be of benefit to ordinary Zambians. Ms Deka says PMRC also applauds government for exceeding its revenue target in the first half of 2018 by 3.3 percent. She says the proposed measures by Government to use electronic solutions in revenue collections should be supported by all Zambians. Ms Deka notes that such efforts will ensure that the country has adequate funds to finance all its budget obligations.
