Kapeya urges UCZ to embrace holistic ministry

Lusaka businessman Robert Kapeya has urged the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) to embrace a holistic approach to ministry by encouraging church members to participate in agricultural activities and other initiatives that improve their livelihoods.

Mr Kapeya said the church should go beyond worship and preaching to address the spiritual, social and economic needs of its members through initiatives such as agriculture, education and healthcare.

Speaking during the induction of Reverend Mulenga Mulumbwa as UCZ Music Evangelism and Discipleship Coordinator at St Margaret’s Church in Kaunda Square Township, Lusaka, Mr Kapeya said music, evangelism and discipleship were interconnected and essential to the church’s mission.

He said music was a powerful tool for spreading the gospel, touching hearts and reaching more people with the message of salvation.

“Leadership in church is not merely about holding a position or occupying an office, but it is about serving God’s people, nurturing spiritual growth, inspiring others and advancing the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Mr Kapeya said.

He urged Reverend Mulumbwa to develop a coordinated vision that would use music to strengthen evangelism and help believers grow in faith.

Mr Kapeya also encouraged Reverend Mulumbwa to use his passion for gospel music to communicate messages of hope, faith, love and salvation.

And United Church of Zambia Lusaka East Presbytery Bishop Harriet Kaira Kapeya has urged church members to strengthen evangelism by reaching out to people who have lost their faith and those who have not yet embraced Christianity.

Reverend Kapeya, who is Mr Kapeya’s wife, said the church should use music and other forms of evangelism to spread the message of salvation and attract more people to Christianity.

Speaking during the sermon themed “Sent to Seek the Lost” at the induction ceremony, she urged Reverend Mulumbwa to ensure that songs performed in the church were consistent with biblical teachings.

She said music had the power to transform lives, strengthen faith and encourage people to join the church, while calling on congregants to promote love and unity.

And newly inducted Music Evangelism and Discipleship Coordinator Reverend Mulumbwa called on church leadership to invest in musical equipment to improve the quality of gospel music.

Reverend Mulumbwa pledged to raise the standards of church music and use it to evangelize and disciple more people in line with the church’s mission.
