ZRA rewards customers in Tenga Receipt Yako campaign

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has rewarded several customers in the latest prize draw under its Tenga Receipt Yako campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging businesses to issue receipts and consumers to demand them after every purchase.

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony, ZRA Governing Board Vice Chairperson Nana Mudenda said the campaign, whose name translates to "Get Your Receipt," is more than a promotional exercise as it seeks to promote tax compliance and strengthen domestic revenue collection.

Ms. Mudenda said the initiative encourages businesses to fully utilise the ZRA Smart Invoice System while empowering customers to request receipts for every transaction, a practice that helps seal revenue leakages through a data-driven approach.

She urged businesses that are yet to onboard onto the Smart Invoice System to embrace the platform, describing it as an indispensable tool in supporting national development through improved tax administration.

Ms. Mudenda disclosed that 47,028 taxpayers have so far been registered on the Smart Invoice System, of whom 20,451 are Value Added Tax (VAT) registered taxpayers, representing 90.89 percent of the active VAT population.

She noted that Government is increasingly relying on the Zambia Revenue Authority to mobilise domestic resources to finance public services, adding that K206.5 billion, representing 81.6 percent of the national budget, is expected to be financed through domestic revenue.

Ms. Mudenda further said 89.6 percent of that amount is projected to come from taxes and non-tax revenues collected by the Authority.

Meanwhile, ZRA Commissioner for Services Yvonne Mwanza encouraged members of the public to always demand receipts whenever they make purchases, saying the practice promotes accountability, transparency and tax compliance.
