Trade Kings invests over US$1 billion in Industrial Development
Trade Kings Group says it has invested more than US$1 billion in industrial development, including US$110 million towards Zambia's first starch and glucose plant at the Lusaka Multi-Facility Economic Zone.
The investment is part of
the company's broader strategy to strengthen local manufacturing, support
agriculture and expand Zambia's participation in regional markets.
Speaking during a media
briefing ahead of the 2026 Agricultural and Commercial Show of Zambia, Trade
Kings Group Public Relations Manager Dr. Bridget Kambobe said the company
remains committed to supporting sustainable economic growth and
industrialisation.
She said Trade Kings
currently procures approximately 126,000 tonnes of locally grown maize annually,
creating a market for local farmers while supporting the development of the
country's manufacturing sector.
Dr. Kambobe said the
company's investments were aligned with this year's Agricultural and Commercial
Show theme, “Fostering Trade and Investment,” which she said resonates with
Trade Kings' longstanding commitment to connecting businesses, communities and
markets.
“Trade goes beyond the
exchange of goods. It is about creating meaningful connections, empowering
communities and building lasting partnerships that promote shared prosperity,”
she said.
Dr. Kambobe said Trade
Kings had transformed from a local enterprise into one of Zambia's leading
manufacturing companies over the past three decades and had expanded its
operations across Southern Africa.
She said the company
continues to invest in manufacturing, agriculture and human capital as part of
its contribution to Zambia's economic transformation and regional integration.
According to Dr. Kambobe,
Trade Kings manufactures more than 300 household consumer brands, exports its
products across Southern Africa and continues to pursue import substitution
through local manufacturing.
She said the strategy was
helping strengthen Zambia's position as a competitive manufacturing hub while
reducing reliance on imported products.
Dr. Kambobe said Trade
Kings directly employs more than 17,500 people and maintains strong linkages
with local farmers and cooperatives through its procurement of agricultural raw
materials.
She said the company's
contribution extends beyond manufacturing, with the Trade Kings Foundation
supporting programmes in health, education and social development.
“These investments are
creating sustainable livelihoods, strengthening local supply chains and
promoting inclusive economic growth,” Dr. Kambobe said.
She said the company's
focus on local sourcing and industrial production was intended to ensure that
the benefits of economic activity extended beyond the factory floor to farmers,
suppliers, employees and communities.
Dr. Kambobe further said
Zambia's participation in regional integration initiatives and opportunities
presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) could create new
markets for locally manufactured products.
“As Zambia embraces
opportunities under regional integration and the African Continental Free Trade
Area, Trade Kings remains focused on innovation, expanding regional markets and
creating lasting value for consumers, businesses and communities across the
continent,” she said.
She said Trade Kings would
continue investing in innovation and productive capacity as it seeks to
contribute to Zambia's industrialisation agenda and strengthen its footprint in
regional markets.
