Agric sector has great incentives- ZDA

Zambia Development Agency-ZDA Chief Executive Officer Perry Mapani says it is rewarding to invest in Zambia's agriculture because of attractive business incentives. Mr. Mapani says an investor in the sector is allowed to import agriculture equipment duty free adding that corporate tax is only 10% as opposed to 35% in other sectors. He said this when Zambia's High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga took PRASAD Seeds Company that wants to set up a multi-million dollar seed processing facility in Zambia. He says agriculture is a priority sector in Zambia as outlined in the Seventh National Development Plan -SNDP which looks at diversification of the economy from copper dependency, of which agriculture is key. The ZDA Chief says Government is further supporting the sector through the creation of industrial parks and a farm block in each of the ten provinces. Govt to cancel deals with under-performing institutions

Defense Permanent Secretary Sturdy Mwale has warned that government will soon cancel all Memorandum of Understandings with institutions that are not serious to avoid wasting time. And Mr. Mwale says his Ministry is taking seriously, the directive by President Edgar Lungu, to venture into agriculture for Zambia to be food secure. Mr. Mwale says his Ministry is therefore, considering working with an Indian company, PRASAD Seeds, through a joint venture or public private partnership in order to achieve food security. He says his Ministry has action oriented officers who do not waste time when executing any mission. Mr. Mwale was speaking in Lusaka when Zambia's High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga took PRASAD Seeds Company who wants to set up a world class seed processing facility in Zambia. NEPAL'S Minister of Industry Sunil Thapa urges business community to invest in Zambia

NEPAL'S Minister of Industry Sunil Thapa has urged the business community in his country to consider investing in Zambia. Mr. THAPA says Nepal is happy to note that in the year 2010 Zambia was captured among the fastest growing economies in Africa. He says Zambia and Nepal share similar challenges and opportunities because both countries are land linked. Mr. THAPA said this when Zambia's Ambassador Extra Ordinary and Plenipotentiary to Nepal on a non -residential basis, Judith Kapijimpanga, called on him in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Cabinet Minister says his Ministry will do everything possible to expedite cooperation between Zambia and Nepal in the interest of industrializing the two countries. Kachenga warns investors against exploiting workers

Government has been urged to preserve certain jobs in the country for Zambians.  Youth Aid Chairperson Chungu Kachenga says this is because the unemployment rate in Zambia is on the increase especially with the removal of street vendors from the streets. And Mr. Kachenga has advised government to investigate foreigners abusing Zambian workers. He says he is aware that some Zambians working for foreign owned companies are working under very hostile conditions. Mr. Kachenga says Zambians should be treated with dignity and respect, and that any employer found abusing their employees should be sent packing forthwith and never to be allowed back in the country.   He has noted with dismay at the irrational and inhuman treatment Zambian employees working for foreign firms or employers has continued to receive coupled with low wages and poor conditions of service. Kanyama MP threatens to take Kambwili to court

Patriotic Front Kanyama Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri has threatened to take legal action against PF Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili for defamation over his accusations that she is collecting money from minibus drivers in her constituency. "It could be that Mr. Chishimba Kambwili has got something against me as an individual, I had high respect for him, I am a politician he is dragging me in the net where he wants to have so many enemies and start fighting with him" said Ms. Phiri. Zambia to explore nuclear power generation

Government says it has commenced discussions on a nuclear energy development programme that will result in generation of about two Giga Watts of electricity. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Chalwe Lombe says the programme will take approximately 15 years. He disclosed this when he held talks with Toshiba General Manager for Government and External Relations, Yoshita Yamaguchi in Kawasaki today. Ambassador Lombe says government is already in consultations with the International Atomic Energy Agency -IAEA-, which is the world's centre for cooperation in the nuclear field.  “The IAEA Chief,  (Director General, Yukiya Amano )  was recently in Zambia and discussed with the government the prospects of such a program and help in ensuring that development of nuclear energy is done in a safe and protected environment,” He said. Concourt can interpret any provision of the constitution own its own motion- Sinkamba

Opposition Green Party President Peter Sinkamba says there is no provision in the Constitution of Zambia, Constitutional Court Act and Constitutional Court Rules which stops the Constitutional Court to interpret any provision of the Constitution own its own motion. Briefing journalists in Kitwe this morning on the decision by the Constitutional Court to adjourn sine die following a complaint submitted to the Judicial Complaints Commission by some petitioners, the Green Party leader said the on-going acrimony over the eligibility of President Edgar Lungu to contest next elections is unnecessary.
