Kanyama MP threatens to take Kambwili to court

Patriotic Front Kanyama Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri has threatened to take legal action against PF Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili for defamation over his accusations that she is collecting money from minibus drivers in her constituency.

"It could be that Mr. Chishimba Kambwili has got something against me as an individual, I had high respect for him, I am a politician he is dragging me in the net where he wants to have so many enemies and start fighting with him" said Ms. Phiri.

"To clear my name if Mr. Kambwili doesn’t come in the open and apologize am dragging him to court because am a politician I need a clean name" She adds

Ms. Phiri has since given Mr Kambwili a 3-day ultimatum to publically withdraw his defamatory statement or prove his allegations in court.

Mr. Kambwili I urge you to apologize publicly in all the media institutions openly or I am ready to spend on a lawyer to vindicate myself to clear my name, and all your informers I will meet them in court, because I have been quite, I took you as a brother and I didn't want to fight you now you have dragged me in the net, where you have to multiply your enemies" really if you were a genuine person you could have consulted me with what you were given I would have cleared myself said Ms. Phiri.

She says in their natural and ordinary meaning, Mr Kambwili’s remarks meant and were understood to mean that she is a corrupt, dishonest, greedy and grasping individual, who is complicit in grabbing resources belonging to the people.

Ms Phiri says the statement has injured her character and reputation, and that as a result of it allegedly being a false and libelous statement, she is regarded with contempt.

Mr. Kambwili yesterday accused the Kanyama Member of Parliament of collecting K100, 000 from the drivers in her constituency.

She is arguing that Mr. Kambwili's statement has injured her character and reputation and as a result of it allegedly being a false and libelous statement, he is regarded with contempt.

Ms. Phiri has challenged that she is giving Mr. Kambwili an opportunity to remedy the damage by apologizing to her within three days.

She explains that she directed the Minibus drivers to come up with corporate social responsibility aimed at rehabilitating the roads in the constituency before taking it to other constituency.
Ms. Phiri has defended herself that she is too busy to collect 100 kwacha's from the poor drivers.

"My relationship with the drivers, I remember one day I called all of them for a meeting and I told them that we have bad roads in kanyama, you are the people that are using that road (MINIBUS DRIVERS), I believe you can do something as yourselves, and I don’t need money to come to the office" said Ms. Phiri.

Meanwhile the Kanyama Law Maker has described Mr. Kambwili as the ‘enemy’ of progress who does not care for the interests of Zambians and that his agenda is to cause political uncertainty for his own gain.

"I have no relationship with them am too busy to think of going to get a 100 kwacha, if I was someone who was putting money as a priority, right now am doing a project using the money from the money we raised as a community, why should I stoop so low and get the monies from poor drivers I know their conditions.

"As I am clearing myself, let this video that I was with the drivers be played as well, I even cautioned them in my speech that they shouldn’t be giving money to politicians these politicians today are there tomorrow they will not be there, they are just enriching people who don’t deserve to get money from them. why should they give money to politicians, they are poor drivers. If they have so much money to dish out to politicians why can't they supplement governments effort to better their roads which they are making and I even said do not give me the money, do not bring the resources to my office you can engage the contractors yourselves I can bring journalists as you are commissioning the works" said Ms. Phiri
