Fube rejects Kalesha’s premeditated apology
Patriotic Front Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube has rejected the apology issued by Victor Kalesha to the Catholic, describing it as insincere and “premeditated.”
Mr. Kalesha formally apologized to the Catholic Church for remarks he made during a recent meeting with President Hakainde Hichilema.
The comments, captured in a widely circulated video clip, were interpreted as targeting Catholic clergy and other groups involved in debates surrounding constitutional reforms.
In the footage, Mr. Kalesha is heard advising the President to ignore “childless” individuals calling for the withdrawal of Bill 7.
He further suggested that those with no “seed” should not speak on constitutional matters remarks believed to have been directed at Catholic bishops linked to the Oasis Forum.
However, Mr. Fube said the comments were not accidental but deliberately crafted to advance what he called “earthly powers.”
“I can’t accept that apology because that statement was premeditated,” he said. “Kalesha should know that life is short, and life is spiritual. What he said was neither spiritual nor consistent with what he claims to be.”
He added that while Catholics are encouraged to forgive, they should not accept an apology made in bad faith.
“If I were Catholic, I would forgive him, yes, but I would not accept that kind of apology because it was designed to serve other interests,” Mr. Fube said.
He argued that Mr. Kalesha’s remarks undermined the church’s moral authority, which he said has been speaking on behalf of the ordinary citizen.
“To me, that apology is not an apology at all. It is just grandstanding,” he said.
