Zambia Commits to Sustainable and Interoperable Health Systems.
The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening digital health governance frameworks to ensure interoperability and sustainability of systems deployed across the health sector.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi, said the government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema remains focused on creating a supportive policy and regulatory environment that encourages innovation while safeguarding data privacy, cybersecurity, and patient confidentiality.
Speaking during the launch of Smart Applications International Zambia, Dr. Lishimpi said digital transformation must benefit all citizens, whether in urban centres or remote rural areas, to ensure equitable access to quality, technology-driven healthcare services.
He has commended Smart Applications International for its formal entry into the Zambian market, noting that the company has already been contributing to the country’s healthcare technology space.
Dr. Lishimpi said the launch theme, “Driving Digital Transformation in Healthcare,” aligns with government efforts to build a modern, efficient, and inclusive health system that leverages technology to improve access, enhance outcomes, and promote transparency across all levels of care.
He has noted that digital transformation is no longer a future aspiration but a present reality reshaping how healthcare is planned, delivered, and managed.
Dr. Lishimpi has underscored the role of electronic health records and smart patient identification systems in addressing inefficiencies, strengthening data accuracy, and improving service delivery.
He has further commended Smart Applications International for supporting government efforts through innovative digital solutions that connect healthcare providers, insurers, and patients.
He said such systems are enhancing medical claims management, reducing administrative delays, and ensuring timely and efficient care for patients.
Dr. Lishimpi has also emphasized the importance of public–private partnerships in achieving national health goals, noting that the private sector’s agility and expertise complement public health investments.
He has urged Smart Applications and other technology providers to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies in implementing the National Digital Health Strategy and the Smart Zambia Master Plan.
Dr. Lishimpi said the launch represents Zambia’s strengthened commitment to digital health transformation through collaboration between the public and private sectors.
He has reiterated the Ministry’s continued dedication to working with technology partners to enhance healthcare delivery and secure a healthier and more prosperous future for all citizens.
