Democratic Union leader sees momentum among youth, women

Opposition Democratic Union Leader Ackim Njovu has expressed satisfaction with the growing public support for his party’s vision, saying Zambians especially women and youth are demanding a fresh brand of leadership free from deception, tribalism, and bitterness.

Mr. Njovu said citizens are increasingly disillusioned with traditional politics and are now looking to young leaders to usher in a new political era grounded in truth and integrity.

“I’ve been overwhelmed by the reception we’re receiving,” he said. “In Garden Compound, women told me they’re tired of lies and deception and want young people to bring a new touch to Zambian politics.”

He said the Democratic Union is positioning itself as a vehicle for honest leadership that values transparency and citizen engagement.

Mr. Njovu said his party would not shy away from admitting challenges and would always return to the people to re-strategize and communicate openly.

The opposition Leader shared a key piece of advice from a resident in Chainda, who told him: “If you want to succeed in politics, tell the truth, you’ll have less work to do.”

“This is the foundation we’re building on. Unlike parties built on lies, we’re committed to being a party of integrity. When we hit a snag, we’ll come back to the people with solutions,” he said.

Mr. Njovu further has emphasized the importance of listening to ordinary citizens, stating that many community members though not in government often have better insights and solutions to national problems.

Meanwhile Mr. Njovu has also issued a strong warning against tribal politics and political manipulation.

“Tribal politics will never be entertained in this country,” he said. “Some politicians will use you for violence, tribalism, or to break the law and when they’re done, they’ll turn against you.”

He has urged youth not to be tools of division or violence, whether by ruling party officials or opposition leaders, warning that such manipulation only leads to regret and suffering.

“The youth must awaken their conscience. When something is wrong, it should not be promoted no matter who pushes it,” he said.

Mr. Njovu has pledged to continue engaging citizens, not just to share what the Democratic Union stands for, but also to listen to their expectations and align with their aspirations.
