Zambia goes high-Tech in the war against Pests
In a major leap for sustainable agriculture, Syngenta Crop Protection has officially launched Laudento®, a groundbreaking pesticide powered by PLINAZOLIN® technology, marking Zambia as one of the first countries globally to deploy this advanced solution.
Designed to combat mites and insects at both adult and immature stages, Laudento® works through contact and ingestion shutting down pest feeding instantly and causing death within 3 to 7 days.
The product offers long-lasting residual protection, reducing crop damage while increasing productivity.
Syngenta East and Southern Africa, Managing Director Given Mudenda, has called the launch a breakthrough in resistance management.
“Laudento® features a novel Mode of Action (IRAC Group 30), offering farmers a powerful tool in the fight against rising pest resistance especially in crops like potatoes, tomatoes, cabbage, and soybean,” he said.
“With superior UV stability and rain-fastness, it allows for fewer applications, reducing costs and environmental impact.”
Syngenta’s Head of Sustainable Business for Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, Bruno Cesar Ananias, has described Laudento® as “one of the most sustainable solutions the market will see in years.”
He has praised Zambia’s leadership in agricultural innovation, referencing the country’s impressive soil care and farming practices. “What I saw in Mkushi rivals Brazil’s high-tech farms,” he said, applauding local partners like AdMore and agronomists for driving safe adoption of new technologies.
And speaking at the same event, Syngenta’s Crop Protection Development Lead Andreas Boon, has hailed Laudento® as a “once-in-a-lifetime product,” particularly effective against tough pests like Tuta absoluta.
He has underscored that its development was driven by local pest and climate realities proof of Syngenta’s commitment to regional R&D.
Susan Njoroge, who heads insecticide strategy for Africa and the Middle East, has emphasized Zambia’s rising global profile in agricultural innovation.
“For once, Africa isn’t last,” she said. “Zambia is leading, showing how fast we’ve advanced in bringing breakthrough solutions to farmers. We’re not just fighting pests we’re building food security and farmer resilience.”
The launch of Laudento® places Zambia firmly at the cutting edge of global agriculture, equipping farmers with innovative tools to grow more with less, and protect their soil for generations to come.
