DUP rejects Visionless Alliances aimed only at ousting HH

Opposition Democratic Union Party (DUP) Leader, Ackim Njovu, has described as weak and misplaced the objective of many current opposition alliances, saying their sole focus on removing President Hakainde Hichilema lacks substance and fails to offer a real vision for Zambia.

Mr. Njovu has stated that while his party remains open to the possibility of forming political alliances in the future, any collaboration must be anchored on a clear and actionable development agenda not just the desire to unseat the current government.

“It’s something we can consider,” said Mr. Njovu in reference to alliances. “But for now, our priority is to build our party based on ideas and policies. Many of the alliances we see today lack a real vision when asked what they stand for, the answer is simply to remove HH. That is a weak and misplaced objective.”

He said the Democratic Union Party is focused on strengthening its foundation through its party manifesto and core ideologies, with national development and the welfare of citizens as top priorities.

Mr. Njovu has challenged opposition alliances to present concrete strategies and policy alternatives that respond to Zambia’s most pressing issues, including the high cost of living, persistent load shedding, depreciation of the Kwacha, and unemployment.

“Zambians are calling for change, yes but change must be purposeful,” he said. “After removing the current leadership, what next? We need to lay down a strategy that speaks to the needs of the people.”

He has further noted that the DUP remains open to dialogue but will only enter alliances that propose clear, issue-based solutions and a credible roadmap for Zambia’s future.

“We are open to discussions, but only those that bring issue-based solutions to the table. We want partnerships rooted in vision, not vendettas.”
