UPND Solwezi East Member of Parliament Dr. Alex Katakwe is urging men and young people to undergo circumcision to safeguard themselves against HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). As a strong promoter of male circumcision, Dr. Katakwe has emphasized that this simple procedure can significantly reduce the risk of various health issues, including cancer of the penis, urinary tract infections, and transmission of the Human Papilloma Virus, which causes cervical cancer in women. Dr. Katakwe who is also a medical professional, has stressed that circumcision is crucial for men's overall physical health, particularly in Zambia, where HIV remains a significant challenge. Zambia has made significant progress in implementing Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) programs, with approximately four million men circumcised between 2009 and 2021.
