ECL, cannot lead Zambia again- Andeleki
Former President Edgar Lungu's recent public statements have sparked concerns that he has not changed, according to Clement Andeleki, the Katombola Member of Parliament from the United Party for National Development.
Mr. Andeleki has argued that Mr. Lungu's past regime was marred by corruption, violence, and economic woes, including Zambia becoming Africa's most indebted nation, making him unfit to govern Zambia again.
“Mr.
Lungu's presidency was plagued by issues such as, Corruption
Allegations where his family was accused of embezzlement, Economic
Mismanagement and Violence and Human Rights Abuses”, he has
emphasized.
Critics like Mr. Andeleki has questioned Mr.
Lungu's ability to regain the trust of Zambians, given his
questionable conduct in public.
Additionally,
the Former President is facing challenges in receiving his
presidential benefits due to his participation in active politics,
which some argue contradicts the Former President's Benefits Act of
1993.
Mr Andeleki and other critics have argued that Mr.
Lungu's return would be disastrous for Zambia, citing the loss of
innocent lives and widespread violence during his tenure.
In
recent news, Mr. Lungu pledged to be a better leader if given another
chance.
However, Mr. Andeleki remain skeptical, pointing to his past actions as evidence of his unfitness for office.
“It has been three years since Mr. Lungu left office and up till now, he is remembered as a very corrupt man”, he said.
