RDAZ Applauds Ministry of Health's Recruitment and Promotion Announcement
The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia (RDAZ) has warmly welcomed the Ministry of Health's recent announcement regarding the recruitment of 4,029 healthcare professionals and the promotion of 1,322 existing personnel this year.
RDAZ President Dr. Mweushi Mphande commended the government's commitment to enhancing the healthcare delivery system, noting that the recruitment drive includes over 400 medical doctors.
While acknowledging that the doctor-patient ratio remains a concern, standing at 1:12,000, Dr. Mphande recognized this development as a significant step towards bridging the gap.
"The ideal
ratio of 1:1,000 and the minimum recommendation of 1:5,000 are still
our targets," Dr. Mphande said. "However, this recruitment
exercise demonstrates the government's unwavering dedication to
addressing the pressing healthcare needs of our population."
Dr.
Mphande also highlighted the notable increase in budget allocation
towards health, from approximately K9 billion in 2022 to K13 billion
in 2023, and a remarkable K20.9 billion in 2024.
"This
upward trend unequivocally illustrates the government's goodwill
towards improving the healthcare sector, achieving universal health
coverage, and promoting sustainable economic growth," Dr.
Mphande emphasized.
Dr. Mphande said: the health sector
has faced unprecedented challenges in recent years, particularly in
light of the global Covid pandemic and Cholera pandemic in our
country recently.
The RDAZ's positive response underscores the collaborative efforts between healthcare professionals and the government in strengthening Zambia's healthcare system.
