In a groundbreaking move to drive financial inclusion and expand access to credit, Emerald Finance Limited has partnered with Airtel Mobile Commerce Ltd (Airtel Money) to launch the "Ka'Starta Loan" digital micro term loan product on the Airtel Money platform.

This innovative service aims to bridge the gap between traditional financial services and the underserved population in Zambia, providing a seamless and accessible solution for instant access to loans via mobile phone.

Speaking at the launch, Emerald Finance Limited CEO Kabeke Mulenga expressed his excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the company's belief in financial inclusion as a catalyst for economic growth and financial freedom.

"Our partnership with Airtel Mobile Commerce Zambia ensures that affordable credit is available to everyone, regardless of location or income level," Mulenga said.

And speaking at the same event, Airtel Mobile Commerce Country Director Andrew Chuma emphasized the importance of the partnership in driving financial inclusion in Zambia.

"This micro term loan product breaks down barriers to access credit and empowers our customers to achieve their financial goals and aspirations," Chuma said.

He says “the Ka'Starta loan offers Airtel customers the ability to access small, short-term loans directly through their mobile phones, with flexible repayment terms designed to suit their needs. This service is available to all Airtel customers who meet the eligibility criteria, providing a quick, convenient, and secure way to obtain credit without the need for traditional banking infrastructure”.
Mr. Chuma says this partnership marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance digital financial services in Zambia, empowering millions of Zambians to achieve their economic goals and fostering entrepreneurial growth across the nation.

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR), with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has launched the School and Junior Councils Advocates Toolkit , a practical guide designed to equip adolescents with the skills they need to organize and effectively manage student and junior councils across Zambia. Syngenta champions sustainable Farming through Pesticide container Recycling

Syngenta East and Southern Africa Managing Director, Given Mudenda, has reaffirmed the company's commitment to environmental stewardship through a groundbreaking pesticide container recycling initiative. Mr. Mudenda who also serves as Chairperson of CropLife Zambia and sits on various regional boards of CropLife Africa   said Syngenta began the project years before Zambia introduced legislation on pesticide container management. “We didn’t wait for the law. We started this out of a sense of responsibility and sustainability,” he said. “T he initiative began with collecting empty pesticide containers from seed companies and has since grown into a national program.
