ISCZ President says 2017 has been characterized by political squabbles

The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia (ISCZ) has observed that the year 2017 has been characterized by political wrangles and squabbles.

Council President Suzyo Zimba says this has been compounded by the failure by President Edgar Lungu and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to sit down and iron out their differences.

Mr. Zimba says this antagonism between the two leaders has somehow made people lose confidence in politicians.

He says this kind of situation should be avoided next year so that the people can regain confidence in their political leaders.

Patriotic Front (PF) Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube has criticized  a section of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), accusing them of aligning themselves with State House for personal gain and describing them as bamushanina ubwali. Mr. Fube said he is disappointed with what he called the current crop of CSOs, arguing that many outspoken activists went silent or shifted positions after the UPND formed government. “I know that after the UPND took over, a lot of CSOs changed. UNAIDS urges stronger political pact for HIV prevention in SADC

The fight against HIV in Southern Africa has reached a defining moment. As experts and policymakers convene in Lusaka for the SADC Meeting of National AIDS Commission Directors and Sexual and Reproductive Health Programme Managers , the message ringing across the conference halls is clear “Act now, act together, and act sustainably.” The joint meeting, running under the theme “Accelerating HIV Prevention and Access to Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health Services: Tackling Inequalities and Securing a Sustainable Response,”  seeks to evaluate progress toward the 2025 HIV/TB and SRHR integration targets while setting a new course for sustainable health financing across the region.
