Tinashe Manzungu dates 2023 Egyptian IMCE

Millions more women suffer associated illnesses, that are aggravated by pregnancy, Anemia, Malaria, Cardiac disease, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, or Diabetes that can indirectly cause death or further disability for the woman or newborn.  The World Health Organization estimates conservatively that 12.5 million women each year, are affected by these illnesses aggravated by their pregnancies. Furthermore, the nonfatal consequences of obstetric complications and associated diseases can severely affect women's quality of life, fertility, and productivity, and can result in chronic reproductive morbidities that may become evident only long after delivery. Maternal mortality is a sad event because the majority of the factors associated with it are preventable. It has a follow-up cost to society and the health of the baby, should the baby survive. CSPR urges women to Break the GBV Silence

As the world ends the 16 days of activism on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction has urged women in the country to break the culture of silence and embrace a strong campaign against the global menace of violence against them. And the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction has urged women in the country to report gender-based violence (GBV). CSPR Executive Director Faides Temba Temba has observed  that many GBV victims suffer in silence because of cultural beliefs. Speaking at the Commemoration of 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence based violence and international human rights day, Mrs. Temba Temba says cultural beliefs have forced women not to report GBV cases in the country. Human rights situation improves-Swedish Ambassador to Zambia

  Ambassador to Zambia Johan Hallenborg has observed that several human rights in Zambia such as Media Freedom, right to Education and the right to Health have improved. Mr. Hallenborg has therefore called on government not to delay in making further reforms such as the Public Order Act to better protect human rights saying these are critical issues. CCZ urges Police to be Professional

Council of Churches in Zambia [CCZ] General Secretary Father Emmanuel Chikoya has called on the Zambia Police to stop operating in the context of bitterness, but ensure they are professional and above board as they conduct arrests. Fr. Chikoya notes with concern that the Police are slowly returning to how they operated under the PF regime. He says the Police are expected to be professional and ensure that people are not unnecessarily detained. Fr. Chikoya says those that facing bond-able cases should granted police bond as it is their constitutional right. He states that it is high time people start suing Police officers in their individual capacities for refusing to grant police bond on the pretext that they are working under instruction. Fr. Chikoya says this tactic of arresting people is not helpful and reflects badly on the country's democracy.
