Police roadblocks killing tourism - ZTA

Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) Chief Executive Director Felix Chaila has described unnecessary level of police roadblocks to be among many factors frustrating tourism growth in Zambia. Mr. Chaila says tourist are more vulnerable to harassment at police road blocks especially those driving foreign number plates. He says in a bid to improve tourists arrivals in the country, the Agency in partnership with the Tourism Ministry are working together to ensure that unnecessary roadblocks are reduced so as to improve the tourism sector. Mr. Chaila said in an interview that Tourism can be a key driver of the growth and economic diversification for the country. He says maximizing the power of the sector requires increased regional cooperation, prioritization of tourism in the national agendas and building resilience and sustainability. Manufacturers told to produce quality goods for regional market

Acting Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Christopher Yaluma has encouraged manufactures in the country to put the Zambian product on the export market. And Mr. Yaluma has urged local manufacturers to improve the quality of their products for them to compete on the export market. Speaking during the Zambia annual quality award gala organized by the Zambia Bureau Standards (ZABS) Mr. Yaluma says the battle for exports has gone far beyond thus the need for local manufacturers to improve on the quality of their products and compete in the global market. He adds that it is important that to manufactures improve their products and enhances their packaging so they can compete with foreign products. Mr. Yaluma has reassured the investment community that government is committed to making reforms geared at providing a conducive and lucrative investment environment.
