Constitutional Democracy advocate Kelvin Mugala speaks out against alleged unconstitutional practices.

Kelvin Mugala, a strong advocate for constitutional democracy, has expressed deep concern over allegations that the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) government may be engaging in unconstitutional practices.

Rev. Mugala says these allegations include the issuance of new National Registration Cards (NRCs) using a specific register from Kawambwa and UPND officials possessing Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) voter registration card machines.

Rev. Mugala has emphasized that the issuance of NRCs and voter registration must adhere to constitutional principles, and any targeted issuance for political advantage not only violates the law but also erodes public trust in national governance.

He has also notes that the reported resignation of the Chief Registrar over non-compliance with irregular directives signals troubling levels of political interference in institutions meant to operate independently.

Rev. Mugala has also recommended a comprehensive investigation into these allegations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Office of the Auditor General, and other relevant oversight bodies.

He has stresses that those found complicit in any illegal activities must face the full force of the law.

In a similar vein, Rev. Mugala has previously spoken out against the UPND government's alleged abuse of power and encouragement of illegality.

He has urged the government to uphold the Constitution and ensure that public resources and institutions are not used as tools for political manipulation.

Rev. Mugala has warned that the allegations of NRC manipulation and voter registration fraud, if not immediately addressed, pose a grave threat to Zambia's democratic fabric.

He has urged the UPND government to act with urgency and integrity, allowing independent scrutiny and committing to transparency.
